The developer of the 300-hectare Town Square housing project in Dubailand has appointed a main contractor to build its first two apartment blocks.
Nshama has awarded contracts for the Zahra and Safi apartment blocks to Dubai-based United Engineering Co (Unec), marking the first stage of construction of the Town Square project.
The blocks will contain 306 apartments, ranging in size from studios of 515 square feet to three-bed units of 1,400 sq ft.
Sales of the apartments began in April, and Nshama said there was a “strong investor response”.
“The commencement of construction of the first two apartment buildings is a milestone for the Town Square project,” said the Nshama chief executive Fred Durie. “The building work is ahead of schedule and Unec is on course to deliver quality homes that fulfil the expectations of our residents.”
Town Square will be anchored by a central square containing a 2.5 million sq ft retail precinct with more than 600 stores and food and beverage outlets. It will also have a Vida-branded hotel, a Reel Cinemas cineplex and an open-air cinema. Once complete, the development near the junction of Al Qudra Road and Emirates Road will comprise more than 3,000 townhouses and 18,000 apartments.
